Academic Honesty

 Intellectual honesty is fundamental to scholarship. Accordingly, I view plagiarism or cheating of any kind in academic work as among the most serious offenses that a student can commit.

Students are encouraged to discuss class topics between themselves and prepare their assignments in groups. However, each group should develop their reports with due consideration for academic honesty. When writing reports, please do not copy from other papers, or from the material found on the Web.

One the other hand, applying techniques developed by other students in the class is highly recomended, under the following conditions. If group A adopts methods developed by group B then:

group A should make group B aware that their techniques are being so used.

group A should clearly document that they are using a technique from group B.

In such cases:

group B will get the extra marks for developing the method

group A will be marked accroding to what value added they can show in:

using or improving the method

enhancing their analysis of a data set.

While you are encouraged to search for additional references, you are not supposed to copy sentences, paragraphs or figures from these papers, unless you explicitly mention the source (by quoting and/or referencing).

Note that I will run phrases from each submitted term paper through a Web search engine, and compare them with my private collection of manuscripts.

In cases of plagiarism or copyright infringement, the report will be automatically be assigned a score of 0 points.
